What is Semaglutide? For anyone who isn’t familiar with Semaglutide, this is one of the new class of medications for weight loss that works as GLP-1 receptor agonist. One of the main effects is on the satiety center of the brain where it suppresses appetite and cravings. This is a treatment that targets the source of weight gain – eating excess calories.
Trizepatide works the same as Semaglutide, but is more suitable for patients with more weight to lose or when Semaglutide isn’t as effective for some patients. Your healthcare provider will determine which medication is right and most effective for you, your body and overall goals.
From a patient’s perspective, the first thing you will notice is that you feel full sooner when eating a meal and you will soon notice that you feel full for longer. A primary side effect of Semaglutide is mild nausea. This is a misnomer though because feeling mild nausea indicates that your appetite is being suppressed, you're not eating as much and the medication is working. It is normal to have mild nausea on the medication especially in the first weeks as your body adjusts to it. Your healthcare provider and nutritionist will help guide you through this time, ensuring your medication dose is correct and you’re still eating, and the right foods, even when you don’t have much of an appetite!
Another point to keep in mind is that most patients may not have much weight loss during the first few weeks as you become accustomed to the medication, prior to increasing your dose accordingly by your provider. “Let’s cover some common myths...”
Myth #1: Semaglutide is only for diabetes – and should not be used “only” for weight loss.
Not so. The medication BRANDS have been FDA-approved for both diabetes and weight loss in non-diabetics. But more importantly – the most common cause of diabetes is being overweight! One of the best ways to treat diabetes is not to let it develop in the first place. These medications will improve your blood sugar whether you are diabetic or not – which results in less overall inflammation and better health for anyone who is on it.
Myth #2: Semaglutide will make you throw up every day – and that is dangerous!
One of the most common side effects of semaglutide & trizepatide can be mild nausea and diarrhea - this is true. At S.Thetics Medspa & Wellbeing, we find that about half of our patients experience mild nausea in the first few weeks they are on it. With the help & guidance of our team, we will adjust or titrate your dosing to find that “sweet spot” where you are losing weight safely and at a steady and sustainable rate without feeling too nauseous. There are some people who are very sensitive to this side effect and cannot find a dose that works for them – but this is rare, especially with the help and guidance of your provider. Your medication dose that is determined at S.Thetics each week by your provider will greatly reduce the chances of you experiencing much nausea, or if any at all. We also help our patients on how to best avoid nausea by eating the right foods, smaller meals, eating more slowly, drinking plenty of water and avoiding very oily and fatty foods while on these medications and especially when you don’t have much of any appetite.
Myth #3: You’ll lose weight without dieting or exercising.
This one is more complicated than a straight “Yes or No.” Let’s dive into it! Can you lose weight without restricting your food intake or exercising more? Yes, you will. However – the reason is that these medications suppress your appetite (making you not interested in eating) and will also slow down how your stomach empties (making it physically more difficult to eat large meals). So in a way – this medication does a lot of the work for you since you will, in fact, be taking in fewer calories.
At S.Thetics, we don’t believe in diets, but more incorporating the right foods into your daily intake, proper water consumption as well as movement, activity and how you move your body intentionally everyday. It’s about living a healthy lifestyle that encompasses all of these things together for OPTIMAL results.
At a certain point while on Semaglutide or Trizepatide you can plateau (just like with any other weight loss program). This means that your weight loss can halt for a time period. This too, is common. To get through these plateaus is where your healthcare provider and the nutrition support of our program is so important. Our main goal is not just to lose the pounds briefly. It is to take the weight off safely, keep it off and live & sustain a healthier lifestyle. We still need to be doing regular exercise for our overall general health and wellbeing always, no matter how we are living. Use of the medications or any medication doesn’t mean we eat what we want and forget about exercise and moving our bodies with intention regularly.
Myth #4: You will need to be on these weight loss medications forever if you want to maintain your results.
No. This is a medication and we don’t want to be on any medication forever or for over- extended amounts of time if we don’t have to. Our goal is to use the medication as an aid to lose the weight then safely and effectively titrate to a maintenance protocol or off the medication altogether and then helping you keep the weight off naturally. After completing the initial program, some patients may still require a small dosage of the medication for longer to aid in this. Every patient's body, weight loss goals and maintenance plan are unique to them.
Myth #5: You’ll gain the weight back after finishing Semaglutide.
Just like with any lifestyle or weight loss intervention – if you go back to living like you did before, of course, the weight will come back. If you stop exercising – do you expect your muscles to be strong forever? No. When you go from intermittent fasting back to eating junk food, would you gain the weight back? Yes of course! Just like anything you do to be healthy, you will need to maintain your results either with healthy eating, lifestyle and exercise modifications or maintenance with a monthly (vs. weekly) dose of Semaglutide or Trizepatide – but on the bright side? It is MUCH easier to maintain a new weight than it is to lose weight – so once we have gotten you to your goal weight, maintenance is easier and simpler than most people would imagine. Myth #6: You’ll get “Ozempic face”.
What is Ozempic? Ozempic is the BRAND name, while semaglutide is the drug or medication. Just like Tylenol is a BRAND name, acetaminophen is the drug. S.Thetics does not prescribe Ozempic or like BRANDS, such as Mounjaro or Wagovy. These BRANDS are to be prescribed specifically to diabetic patients by their physicians. S.Thetics Medspa & Wellbeing offers the compounded medication OF those brands, Semaglutide or Trizepatide.
“Ozempic face” is a widely used term currently referring to whenever a person loses weight while taking these name BRAND drugs.
It is important to note that regardless of how a person loses weight – they typically will lose volume in their face, which can lead to sagging skin. Chemical peels are most commonly used for achieving more advanced exfoliation and skin brightening while improving the overall tone and texture. Now they can also provide more anti-aging benefits by promoting extra collagen production compared to chemical peels from years ago. At S. Thetics Medspa we have three levels of chemical peels based on the percentage of medical grade ingredients of each peel and how deep we want it to absorb through the many skin layers to achieve the most optimal outcomes.
Chemical Peels at S. Thetics Medspa are very different in their chemical makeup compared to peels found in non-medical spas or any over the counter. Ours are professionally applied to the patient’s skin and closely monitored by your skincare provider. They have more active medical grade ingredients that will absorb into the skin, target and treat some of the most common skin concerns most effectively. All with little to no downtime.
Level I is our most superficial, mild peel. It penetrates just the top layers of the epidermal (outermost) layer of skin. It’s great for mild yet effective exfoliation and brightening. Some may not peel much with this peel or at all, maybe just experience slight flakiness for a day or two. This peel is great on its own to achieve an all-over glow or is commonly combined with the dermaplaning treatment for added exfoliation and brightening.
Level II, a step up from Level I, is a mild to moderate depth peel, penetrating through the outermost layer of skin just into the deeper dermal layer. Mild to moderate peeling can occur for up to 3 – 7 days.

The VI peel is a Level III peel. Just like with all chemical peels, it is a type of chemical peel that is used to improve the overall appearance of the skin. It is a more powerful patented blend of medical-grade peel ingredients, including trichloroacetic acid (TCA), salicylic acid, retinoic acid, phenol, and vitamin C. The VI Peel is designed to address a variety of skin concerns, including hyperpigmentation, sun damage, melasma (hormone-induced hyperpigmentation), fine lines and wrinkles, mild acne and mild acne scarring. It works by exfoliating the outermost layer of the skin, penetrating to the deeper dermal layer and also stimulates collagen production, promoting healthy cell turnover and anti-aging. Something chemical peels of the past didn’t do.
This Level III peel involves your S. Thetics skincare provider applying the peel solution to the face layer by layer as she’s carefully monitoring your skins response. This may cause a mild tingling or “spicy” sensation. The peel is left on the skin, then specific peel instructions and take home products are given to you before leaving your appointment. Peeling typically starts with this peel on day 2 or 3 after your initial appointment, peeling can last for up to 7 – 10 days and can be intermittent. Aftercare instructions commonly include avoiding the sun, using the gentle products accordingly and avoid rubbing, picking and scratching the skin. We want the skin to peel and heal on its own with no extra “help.” PROPER AFTERCARE = BETTER RESULTS!
The VI Peel is suitable for all skin types and can be performed on the face, neck, chest, and hands. It is typically recommended in a series of two to four peels, spaced 4 - 6 weeks apart, to achieve optimal results.
Your skincare provider will determine your treatment series and subsequent maintenance treatments after listening to your skin concerns and assessing your skin. Optimal chemical peel results done in a series are cumulative. It is important to note that the degree or amount of peeling does not determine how effective the peel is.
Overall, the VI Peel at S. Thetics Medspa + Wellbeing is an excellent choice for individuals looking to greatly improve the texture, tone, and overall appearance of their skin. It is a relatively quick and non-invasive procedure that can provide noticeable results with minimal downtime.

Let us introduce….SkinStylus Microneedling!
However, we are not new to microneedling at S. Thetics!
In the past and for several years, we offered traditional microneedling, using another brand device. When we brought on the Morpheus8 treatment two years ago we did away with traditional microneedling treatments.
After a while we noticed there was a void left in our service menu and still an interest and demand for it.
Enter the more advanced technology of SkinStylus microneedling pen! Brought to us by the same manufacturers as the tried-and-true HydrafacialMD device, we knew this would be a homerun treatment just as the Hydrafacial is for
our patients.
In addition to the Morpheus8 treatment, SkinStylus gives us another option at S. Thetics for microneedling.
What’s the difference between SkinStylus microneedling and Morpheus8?
SkinStylus microneedling utilizes a small handheld pen-like device that has 36 microscopic needles in the tip. We know that’s a lot of needles and sounds painful but rest assured, this is a comfortable treatment with little to zero discomfort. Ask your provider to show you the 36 needle tip before starting your treatment, they’re so small you can barely see them all but they are mighty all at once! These needles create small microchannels in the skin. By doing this we are causing a controlled injury to the skin and its understructures, which signals our body to create new collagen and elastin. All our advanced medical aesthetic treatments are designed to create new collagen & elastin, but SkinStylus gives us another great option with very little to no social downtime compared to the others. When we create new collagen and elastin, it improves the skin’s overall tone and texture, minimizes fine lines, reduces pore size and it’s also indicated for mild scarring.
Before every treatment, a topical numbing cream is applied to your entire face and neck for 30 minutes prior to the treatment. The treatment itself takes 30-40 minutes. This treatment can be customized to each patient by your provider based on your skin concerns and current condition of your skin. Your provider determines the depth of the channels made by the needle tip and areas of concern can be treated with more attention where or if needed.
A series protocol of three treatments is typically recommended at first, doing each treatment 4 – 6 weeks apart. You will notice a gradual improvement in your skin after each consecutive treatment. Just as with all other advanced medical aesthetic treatments, maintenance is required to keep up the optimal results of the original series. Your provider will determine your maintenance treatment plan with you. Maintenance is typically two treatments per year, but varies based on each patient, their skin and desired outcomes. SkinStylus is an excellent treatment on its own, or it’s also a great option to add in with any other advanced treatments you already receive at S. Thetics throughout the year. There is no social downtime with each treatment other than mild to moderate redness that can last a few hours up to a few days, which depends on how each persons skin responds to the treatment. This type of redness is easily covered with makeup that can be applied the next day after your treatment.
Next up…Morpheus8
Morpheus8 is also a microneedling device but with a few major differences. Morpheus8 is microneedling combined with added Radiofrequency (RF) heat. It is one of THE most advanced medical aesthetic devices on the market today.
You will numb for a bit longer prior to your treatment and the treatment takes about 45 – 50 minutes. By delivering the RF heat through the needles simultaneously, you’re getting double and triple the action as just microneedling alone. The biggest difference between the Morpheus8 & SkinSylus treatments is that one Morpheus8 treatment is equivalent to a series of three SkinStylus microneedling treatments. Morpheus8 is also customized to each patient as its needles can go deeper below the skin’s surface to effectively treat more prevalent issues like deeper wrinkles and scars & skin laxity (loose skin, jowls). There is little to no social downtime with Morpheus8. Like the SkinStylus, mild to moderate redness is common and can last a few hours up to a few days. Minimal swelling is rare but can occur after
Morpheus8. These side effects are specific to each individual.
If you’ve never had any form of microneedling or it’s been a long time since you had it last, SkinStylus is an excellent place to start. Maybe you’ve already had a Morpheus8 (or a Halo laser) treatment? If so, then a SkinStylus microneedling series would be great to do in place of your next Morpheus8 (or Halo). If you love your Morpheus8 and/or Halo treatments, SkinStylus is also a great maintenance treatment among those bigger, yearly treatments. Emsella
Emsella is a chair that uses High Frequency Electromagnetic Stimulation (HIFES) to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. This treatment is FDA-approved and helps with urinary stress and urge incontinence, pelvic floor tissue laxity, increased blood flow to the vaginal tissue, and improves sexual function.
During the Emsella treatment, you’ll sit on a specialized chair that emits electromagnetic energy. This energy stimulates the pelvic floor muscles, causing them to involuntarily contract and relax repeatedly. These contractions help to strengthen the pelvic floor, which is actually a group of muscles just under the bladder. Clinical studies have been published on Emsella and confirm 95% improved overall quality of health. For women, each 28 minute treatment is equivalent to 11,200 Kegel exercises that we often neglect or forget to do on our own.
One of the most common questions we receive is if you’ll be clothed during this treatment. The answer is “Yes!” You will remain fully clothed throughout the procedure, and there is no downtime required. In fact, this treatment only takes 28 minutes, too! An initial series of consecutive treatments is required and just like with all of our advanced treatments, it requires maintenance to ensure that results are achieved from the series. Your nurse provider will help determine what those plans look like for you!

DiVa Laser Treatment
This is a non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation treatment that uses a specialized laser to improve vaginal health and sexual function. DiVa has been shown as safe and effective for women who are experiencing vaginal laxity, dryness, or discomfort during intercourse or who experience urinary incontinence.
During the DiVa laser treatment, a small, thin wand is inserted into the vagina, and laser energy is delivered to the vaginal walls. The laser energy rebuilds collagen and elastin, which results in skin laxity improvement and increased sexual lubrication and sensation.
The procedure itself takes only five minutes to complete, and there is no downtime required. Most women experience light “spotting” for an hour or possibly a day or two. You can resume normal activities immediately after the treatment. Most women typically require a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart to achieve optimal results. Your provider will complete a thorough consultation and health health evaluation with you first and foremost to assess your concerns and create your treatment plan.
PRP Shot
The PRP Shot at S. Thetics, is a revolutionary approach to improve sexual intercourse and stress urinary incontinence. You may have also heard this referred to as the “O-Shot.” This treatment is non-surgical and will use your own platelet-rich plasma to rejuvenate the vaginal tissue.
During the PRP shot procedure, a small amount of blood is drawn from the patient's arm, and the blood is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood. The PRP is then injected into specific areas of the vaginal tissue. The PRP contains growth factors and other healing compounds that stimulate the production of collagen and elastin – which is similar to our other favorite treatments we mentioned above, just in a different way!
Most women who have received the PRP Shot have experienced an improvement in their sexual response and ability to hold their urine shortly after the injections. Some have had profound and nearly immediate increases in their sensitivity, but most women note a more gradual response over several weeks, which can last many months to several years before being repeated. Results have also shown to last up to a year! Of course, each person is different, which is why we’ll work with you to determine your best plan for treatment.

Will Daxxify Become the New Botox?
Have you heard about Daxxify? It’s the latest wrinkle-reducing product to be approved by the FDA, and the results could be game-changing.
Since there are so many wrinkle relaxer treatment options now, we decided to take a minute to break down the latest so you can make the best decision for you. With our help, of course!
What’s A Neuromodulator?
All neuromodulators (products like Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and now Daxxify) do essentially the same thing – they treat dynamic wrinkles. And yes, there are different types of wrinkles!
There are two types of wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are formed over time by facial movement. Laughing, smiling, frowning, and squinting lead to dynamic wrinkles. Static wrinkles, on the other hand, form naturally with age. Static wrinkles appear as collagen and elastin break down, gravity takes its toll, or genetics cause thin, sagging skin. (Don’t worry, there won’t be a test. Your S.Thetics Med Spa and Wellbeing professional knows what’s up!)
Neuromodulators treat dynamic wrinkles. When the product is injected into the wrinkle or area of movement, it blocks the message from the nerve to the muscle to make the movement. Essentially, it smooths and minimizes existing wrinkles while preventing new ones from forming. After all, If you're not making the movement (or as much), then you're not creating the lines! Most commonly treated areas with a neuromodulator are: forehead, frown lines and crows feet (under eye).
So why is Daxxify different?
While all neuromodulators are very similar in their chemical makeup, as similar as the differences between popular sodas like Coke and Pepsi, the primary appeal to Daxxify is that its wrinkle-reducing effects are expected to last twice as long as any other on the market.
For more than ten years, Botox was the only neuromodulator available. And while Botox will always have our heart, we’re happy to see the industry continuing to improve and provide other options that allow more people to experience the confidence that comes from reducing and, at times, reversing the aging process. There are three different categories of chemical peels, based on how deeply they penetrate the skin.
There are superficial chemical peels that permeate the top layer of the skin called the epidermis. We always start with a complimentary in-office consultation by one of our certified Coolsculpting providers. This is required prior to every procedure to ensure you fully understand the expectations and needs of each patient. During this consultation, your Coolsculpting provider performs a full assessment of the area(s) of concern to ensure that Coolsculpting is the right option for you. Dermal fillers are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed in the United States. Millions of these procedures are performed every day and they have become more popular than traditional cosmetic surgery to achieve results in a much less invasive way.
Dermal Fillers are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed in the United States. Millions of these procedures are performed every day and they have become more popular than traditional cosmetic surgery to achieve results in a much less invasive way. There are a few different types of dermal fillers offered at S. Thetics Medspa, so there are always questions about the differences between the different formulas and which one is best suited for individual concerns.
At S. Thetics, we like to provide as much information as possible to our community, whether you are a Lawrence, Kansas local, or visiting from across the globe!
For someone that is new to the world of dermal fillers, it can be overwhelming once you begin to research. So, to start off, let’s talk about what dermal fillers are used for. Most commonly, dermal fillers are used to plump and lift the skin. Once injected, these fillers will rebuild collagen that has been lost over time. It is natural for skin to lose collagen as we age, which is why we begin to see skin laxity and fine lines and wrinkles around our face and neck as we get older. We also lose bone density as we age.
To put it simply, dermal fillers fill depressions in the skin to smooth out texture and restore volume. Dermal fillers are most commonly used in areas where wrinkles or folds are more pronounced in the skin and in the hollow areas below the eyes. Dermal fillers are also commonly used to enhance areas of the face, such as the lips, jawline, and chin to make them fuller and more pronounced, as they once were in our youth.
Something that is commonly mistaken for dermal fillers is Botox.
However, Botox and Dermal Fillers are two completely different treatments with different results.
There are two different kinds of wrinkles, dynamic wrinkles, and static wrinkles. We also offer Botox and Dysport at S. Thetics for the treatment of dynamic wrinkles caused by facial movements, squinting, smiling, or furrowing of the brows. Botox and Dysport are used to smooth existing lines caused by movement and as a preventative treatment to inhibit deeper lines from forming. Botox and Dysport work by temporarily blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles where they are injected. By doing this, the muscles cannot contract, which relaxes and softens wrinkles in the area injected. When the muscles in the face are not contracted, wrinkles are not likely to form. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, have no effect on the muscle. Dermal Fillers are used on static wrinkles, which are caused by the natural aging process. Aging naturally results in the breakdown of collagen and elastin. These static lines are formed regardless of muscle action. Dermal fillers are made of acids, most commonly hyaluronic acid, which is found naturally in the body, but depletes as we age. Dermal fillers add volume and smooth lines and areas that have become hollow.

Thetics from Europe. These fillers are made of a natural substance called hyaluronic acid. This is a chemical found in the body that helps increase the production of collagen and elastin and boosts elasticity. When you come to S. Thetics, our team of trained nurse injectors will listen to you and assess your concerns to determine which option is best for you, depending on your desired outcome. Dermal fillers are meant to be very versatile and tailored to each individual. They are definitely not one size fits all!
Something that can be daunting to someone that has never gotten dermal fillers is the injection process. Any time there is a needle involved, people tend to ask about the pain level and whether it is worth the pain. At S. Thetics, we make the procedure as comfortable as possible for our patients. When you come in for a dermal filler appointment at S. Thetics, we always start off by applying a topical, pharmaceutical compounded numbing cream to numb the area. This helps to significantly reduce any discomfort caused during the injection process. Once the area is numb, the injections begin. Most dermal fillers also contain lidocaine, which will keep you comfortable throughout your treatment as well. The duration of this process will differ for everyone and will depend on the area or areas being treated, but most appointments take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour from start to finish.
One of the many benefits of dermal fillers is that there is no downtime following the injections. Once the injections are complete, you can leave the office and resume life as usual. However, swelling is common, especially within the first few days. At S. Thetics, we recommend using cold compresses following your procedure to reduce swelling. You may also experience mild bruising at the injection sites. This is also completely normal, and any bruising will typically fade within the first few days. S. Thetics also carries an excellent product by Alastin that helps prevent and minimize swelling or bruising. The results from dermal fillers can be seen immediately but can sometimes seem more drastic immediately after the injections due to swelling. Within 2 - 5 days, depending on the person and how much filler was used, any swelling and bruising will be healed, and you will be able to see your end result.
Like many aesthetic treatments, dermal fillers require maintenance to do just that…. maintain the results you originally sought and that were achieved from your initial treatment(s). Dermal filler WILL dissolve naturally and completely on its own if you let it. Everyone’s body metabolizes the hyaluronic acid from dermal fillers differently. Typically, dermal filler treatments should be repeated every 6 to 18 months. Besides how your own body breaks down filler, its longevity also depends on what filler was used by your nurse injector and in what area of the face it was injected. Some dermal fillers have much more "staying power" than others and some dermal fillers dissolve much faster in some areas of the face than others. For instance, around the mouth (perioral lines or thinning lips). Typically dermal filler is used on those pesky vertical lines around the mouth, and also to fill in or enhance the lips. Because we use our mouths so much every day to talk, eat, chew and drink, especially when puckering up using straws, the dermal filler will break down and dissolve in this area faster than it would in the mid-face area, where dermal filler may have been used to restore volume lost in the cheek area due to natural bone loss. The cheek area does not naturally move as much as the area around the mouth. Therefore, dermal filler can last up to 18 months and sometimes longer in the mid-face. Some dermal fillers have a two-year indication and we have definitely seen this in our patients. So yes, just like many other aesthetic treatments, regular upkeep is required because no treatment can stop the natural aging process.
Even with the use of anti-aging and preventative practices, time will inevitably march on... right across our face as we like to say at S. Thetics!
